Description | The objective of this work was to determine the accute effect of plyometric training on running economy (RE) in endurance runners. Seven competetive and recreational runners completed a plyometric training (load 7 sec, rest 2 min, maximum intensity, 3 sets of each exercise) primarily aimed at lower limbs (squat – jump; skipping; rebound push-ups etc.), and four tests of RE. Tests of RE were performed on four separate occasions (-48, 0, 24 and 48 h; 0=a test immediately after the plyometric intervention) on a conveyor belt (1% inclination ) at 8, 10 and 12 km.h -1. Each level lasted 5 min and only the last 2 min were recorded. We found that the average VO 2.BM-1.min -1 and deltaVO 2.BM-1.min-1 at given speeds practically did not increase from baseline. Results of the Wilcoxon test didn’t show statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) with regard to indicators of RE after the plyometric intervention. Likewise, we didn’t notice any delayed training effect on RE. |
