Course of study
Sports Sciences as a doctoral study program is dedicated to Master's study programme graduates at universities or institutions, which provide full tertiary education.
The organization of studies within the doctoral study program is regulated by the Study and Examination Regulations.
Each Ph.D. student agrees to cooperate with a supervisor, who mentors the student during the whole study programme. The supervisor is an expert in a specific scientific discipline corresponding with the students' research interests and dissertation topic.
Full-time students are required to attend classes regularly and actively participate in Faculty teaching and research activities.
Part-time students follow an individual study plan under the guidance of their supervisor or consultant.
Study composition
- compulsory and compulsory-optional subjects in the form of seminars
- systematic work on solving a scientific problem shown by publishing the results; the work must lead to presenting a doctoral dissertation
- participation in practical teaching and research activities of the Faculty
- study abroad or international research internship
- participation in professional conferences and seminars
Completing studies
The studies are completed by the State Doctoral Examination, including defending the Doctoral Dissertation.
State Doctoral Examination proves the candidate's knowledge of scientific research methodology in sports sciences. It also examines the candidate's knowledge in a wide range of sports-related topics and the following interdisciplinary fields:
- anthropomotorics and biomechanics
- physiology, sports medicine
- psychology, philosophy, sociology and sports pedagogy
Doctoral Dissertation must be submitted by the student before the maximum duration of studies elapses. The form and content of the thesis must comply with criteria for scientific work, and it must produce original results of an independent theoretical and creative activity.
