Online application and deadlines

All applicants must submit an online application and attach all the required appendices.
The administrative admission fee is 800 CZK for each application. After filling in the application form, the system will guide you on how to pay.
The application round is open from 1 January until 30th April. Successful applicants commence their study in the upcoming September.

Compulsory application appendices

  • verified copy of Master Diploma
  • validation of previous education if it took place abroad
  • copy of Diploma Supplement (Master Studies)
  • structured CV
  • overview of published professional works
  • doctoral thesis project
  • statement of a potential supervisor including his/her agreement of potential guidance of the applicant (professor, senior lecturer)

Entrance examination procedure

Applicants who submit a valid application and pay the administrative fee will receive an invitation and schedule for the entrance examination during May. The exams take place at the Faculty of Sports Studies in Brno or it can be arranged via online communication tools.
The two parts of the entrance examination take place on the same day:

Interview

1.) Defending the quality of the submitted Doctoral Dissertation Project

  • a) synthesis of knowledge (maximum 10 sources, current, foreign)
  • b) objectives, research questions/hypotheses
  • c) methodology

2.) Presupposition for scientific work

  • evaluation of the applicant's preparedness for scientific work (ability to study professional literature, define scientific issues, ability to formulate scientific questions and hypotheses, ability to look for ways to solve these questions and verify hypotheses, ability to organize research projects), ascertain the applicant's motivation
  • knowledge in the field of Sports sciences
  • publications

3.) Competence in the English language

  • interview in English

Written part

4.) Understanding and analysis of research text (in English) – written part

  • The candidate chooses one of 4 research articles written in English, where the following parts will be deleted: abstract, objectives and conclusion. The candidate will have 30 minutes to read + 10 minutes to answer in writing. In his own words, the applicant formulates the objectives and conclusion of the article in English; chooses the type of research design (experimental, cross-sectional, time series, longitudinal, case study, grounded theory, action research, ethnography or autoethnography), and determine what type of statistical methods were used in the article.
Evaluation criteria of the entrance examination
  1. Evaluation of the quality of the Doctoral Dissertation Project (0-18 points)
  2. Presuppositions for scientific work (0-18 points)
  3. English language competences (0-9 points)
  4. Scientific text comprehension and its analysis (0-12 points)

Maximum Total: 57

To meet the criteria of the admission procedure, the applicant must achieve a minimum of 34 points.
