Description The article introduces adaptation of H. Bosma's GIDS method applied in research on seventeen year old respondents of the longitudinal study ELSPAC. One of the objectives is to specify the commitments which a young person forms in areas: school/leisure time/occupation;friendship/ intimate relationship;life/world/society and parents. GIDS is administered in three steps: interview, commitment formulation and questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to measure the strength of commitment and the amount of exploration. We categorized the statements from the perspective of credibility (interviewer's suggestion, following the rules) and type (subjective relevance, personal involvement, stability, responsibility). The sample size was different for psychometric analysis of the questionnaire (N=1200) and for categorisation of the statements (N=124). Results confirm there exist two relatively independent scales: strength of commitment including its stability and extent of exploration in particular areas.
