Description | Profound analysis of physical activity in youth and the efficiency of educational interventions into the lifestyle of youth need to be based on findings regarding the structure, intensity, time, frequency and type of physical activity. The aim of the study was to identify the structure of weekly physical activity in boys and girls in the Czech Republic and to estimate the strength of the associations between the PA level and the major characteristics of their lifestyle. In total, 2923 males and 3033 females participated in the study in the Czech Republic. To estimate weekly physical activity we applied the International Physical Activity Questionnaire in the long Czech version. Based on the analysis procedures of IPAQ survey (International Physical Activity Questionnaire, 2005), 736 boys and 826 girls aged 15-24 were included into the analysis. Boys show higher total PA in leisure time than girls. Along with age, there is a decline in physical activity of boys in leisure time, transportation and increase of physical activity at work (or school). In girls, decline in physical activity in leisure time and increase of physical activity during housework or and at work (or school). Boys (OR=2,60; p=0,001; CI=1,90-3,57) and girls (OR=2,59; p=0,001; CI=1,90-3,50) that are involved in performing some type of organized physical activity meet the recommendations for vigorous physical activity more frequently than others. The IPAQ long questionnaire provides more data to analyze the structure of physical activity than the IPAQ short. However, the self-reported data in the long version tend to be overestimated by the participants more than in the short version. The long and the short versions of the IPAQ questionnaire can be adjusted as compatible using international analysis methods and the methods suggested by the Center for Kinanthropology Research at Faculty of physical culture. Various types of regressive analysis are the most proposed analyses of the data obtained from questionnaire surveys. |
