Description Azidothymidine (AZT), antiviral drug, was studied in human body liquids(urea,serum and whole blood)by electrochemical methods in connection with hanging mercury electrode(HMDE). Reduction signals of AZT (~1.1 V) obtained using cyclic (CV), differential pulse (DPV, square wave(SWV)and chronopotentiometric stripping analysis (CPSA)were compared.The most suitable method for the AZT determination was SWV where the optimalization of experimental conditions was made. The detection limit AZT in phosphate buffer was 500 pM. It was found that the square wave voltammetry is very fast and chief method for quantification of AZT in body humour. It is able to study the metabolism of this drug and farmacological monitoring of AZT in the case of HIV positive pacients.
