Description The kayf is an inseparable part of the Arab world, from where the eponymous expression denoting pleasure or enjoyment has passed into many languages. The first part of the paper deals with the origin of the word and its spread through language contact, focusing on its adoption in Russian. It summarizes the interest of linguists in this Russian expression, describes its meanings in contemporary Russian, and establishes the frequency of use on the basis of several monolingual corpora of the Russian language. In the second part, it presents a translatological analysis of translation solutions excerpted from parallel corpora of Czech and Russian - fiction texts and film subtitles, and provides insights from translation dictionaries. In addition, it examines Czech contexts with transcribed expressions extracted from monolingual corpora of the Czech language, and formulates the reasons of which Russian kaif can be described as a lingvorealia.
