Description | The aim of our paper is to present an innovative way of teaching qualitative methodology for non-sociological disciplines. We built the teaching according to the principles of critical and feminist pedagogy. To fulfill these principles we used journaling, a method of personal writing. These methods allow us to work experientially and to explore aspects of research that tend to be neglected in traditional teaching, such as emotionality, positionality, creativity and the art of interpretation, even in large courses of up to 150 students. Using specifically formulated assignments, paper and pencil, it is possible to focus on different topics or problems, and connect them to personal experience, one's own feelings and personal, professional or research goals. Through writing techniques, data that students understand and have personal relevance to them can be captured. In an experiential way, students can be introduced to concepts such as conceptualization, triangulation, experience simple steps of analysis and interpretation, be taught to ask meaningful questions, and be shown how to functionally connect theory, methodology and analysis. We focus on an applied research that can show future teachers how research and analysis are part of evidence based problems´ solutions they may use in their profession. |
