Description The incidence of oncological diseases in the Czech Republic is constantly increasing, however, significant progress in the treatment and detection process of these diseases leads to a decrease in mortality and an increase in the number of survivors. The number of patients for whom properly adjusted physical activity could serve as a means of supportive treatment in oncology is thus increasing. According to existing evidence, physical activity is important before, during and after treatment of oncological disease. In addition to the generally known benefits of physical activity, movement is essential for oncology patients as a means of mitigating the side effects and consequences of treatment. These unpleasant manifestations accompanying the disease and treatment include, for example, fatigue, decreased bone density, depression and anxiety, chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, lymphedema, or decreased muscle mass. Regular physical activity also prolongs survival, has proven to improve the quality of life of oncology patients and makes it easier for them to return to work. It is logical that the physical activity of these patients has its limitations. There are general recommendations on the type, frequency, intensity and duration of physical activity, however, depending on the health condition, the type of diagnosis and the type of treatment, it must or at least should be individually adjusted by a specialist. In the context of the frequency of occurrence of the disease, the increase in the number of patients, we perceive it as essential not to be afraid to offer physical activity to patients as part of supportive and non-pharmacological treatment.
