At the weekend of 22nd and 23rd February 2020, the students of the third year of the Physiotherapy studies met on the premises of the Faculty of Sports Studies of Masaryk University to acquire additional theoretical and especially practical skills applicable in their practice under the guidance of the physiotherapist Tomáš Debowski. The topic of this weekend seminar was the manual centration of the shoulder joint following the concept of the Basal postural programmes according to Jarmila Čápová. The first half of Saturday was primarily dedicated to the theoretical basis when students were introduced to the principles of the concept and then the rules of its practical implementation. The rest of Saturday´s and Sunday´s programme was dedicated to practical training. First, the training was done by demonstrating on one student and then the therapeutic procedure was practised among students in pairs, while the lecturer provided students with feedback. Thus during the weekend students could try several therapeutic interventions in the abdominal and back positions for different diagnoses.
Students applied the acquired skills immediately the following day during their school practice. Information and practical experience acquired at the seminar provided them with very valuable and hands-on experience to help patients with their problems and thus improve their health.
