International Week 2024
For the third time, we will welcome a number of international experts to our faculty, who will be giving lectures and practical sessions from November 18–22. Register for individual lessons and workshops here!
On Saturday, 19th November 2019, a Course in Self-Defence for the Visually Impaired was held under the auspices of the Department of Gymnastics and Combat Sports of the Faculty of Sports Studies in cooperation with the Teiresias Centre. The course was again held in the combat sports gym in Komárov, Brno. The participants from among the students of Masaryk University and the general public were acquainted, among other things, with the issues of self-defense, crime prevention and communication strategy in dealing with their surroundings in the theoretical part.
The practical part included developing coordination skills using balancing aids. Then the use of basic technical means of self-defence was intensively trained in a way suitable for the visually impaired. In the end, all the participants could check their newly-acquired skills in model situations, where they had to solve a conflict situation with an attacker. Students in the field of Special Education of Security Units at the Faculty of Sports Studies helped again as assistants during the course.
The next course is planned for 16th December 2019.
