Modulating Working Memory in MCI-LB Dual Stimulation of Striatum and Cerebellum

| Popis | Even in the early stages of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), working memory (WM) dysfunction is associated with impaired attentional filtering and reduced storage capacity, the former primarily due to the degeneration of dopaminergic terminals in the striatum. Noninvasive brain stimulation has struggled to effectively target deep brain areas. Transcranial temporal interference stimulation (tTIS) offers a promising solution by applying multiple high frequency signals (> 1KHz) that temporally interfere at the target area deep in the brain, enabling modulation of deep brain structures. Recent results show the ability of tTIS to modulate striatal activity (Wessel et al., 2023). Cerebellum plays extensive role in cognitive processes. In older adulthood, cerebellum's connectivity with striatum is disrupted (Hausman et al., 2019). We further investigated possible interactions of cerebellar TMS with striatal TIS. |
