Citace
Popis Bailey & Ogles (2019) observed how common factors represents a metatheory and not a bona fide treatment approach. They noted several steps to take, including overcoming an abstraction problem, describing a theory of change, and specifying the components of the approach as one would for a treatment manual. The components, according to the proposal, would be organized around intermediate-level processes (using Goldfried’s terminology) that are common across the boundaries of theoretical orientations. This structured discussion will focus on identifying the set of principles around which CF therapy can be organized and integrative personal therapeutic approach might be more aptly explained. We will present inclusion and exclusion criteria and present a set of possible common factors to form the basis of CF therapy as a bona fide therapy. These factors or principles will include the therapeutic alliance, corrective experiencing/exposure, motivation/expectancy, insight/feedback/reality testing, and psychoeducation. We are hoping to invite discussion among participants around what are the next steps for establishing CF therapy through academic discourse and building consensus. At the same time, we will encourage reflections on the potential drawbacks and pitfalls of this endeavor.
