Popis | Collective identity is a notoriously vague concept. It could be argued that collective identity is an "empty signifier", ready to be filled with all kinds of myths. Nevertheless, collective identity has subliminal effects crucial for the emergence of social order. As a latent phenomenon, collective identity becomes only in times of crisis manifest. The paper investigates the case of a recent identity crisis in the United States, which was triggered when abuses in the Iraqi Abu Ghraib prison became public. |
