The overall aim of the project is to ensure network access for the highest possible number of
Masaryk University employees and students in close co-operation with a similar project
of Czech Technical University in Brno and in co-ordination with the project of CESNET
(Czech Academic Network). In particular, the aim is to build a high-performance metropolitan network
backbone utilising ATM technologies and, in parallel, to support the development of individual network infrastructures of MU faculties and various remote sites. The project is planned for the years 1995-1997, trying
to prepare the metropolitan network in Brno, and Masaryk University in particular, for the predicted
abrupt increase in the number of computer network users and their continuously increasing requirements.
Thus, the project in some way anticipates realisation of the TEN-34 CZ programme within
the conditions of Brno.
