The genological structure of the monography "From Modernism to the Avant-garde. Russian-Czech Parallels" helps to analyze the problems of prose, dramaturgy and poetry. The dominant Russian material is compared with the parallel phenomena in Czech literature and with the European context. The visual art component of the book depicts the development from impressionism through art nouveau to art deco and the other forms of the avant-garde. The ecphrasis is analysed in poetry and fine arts, too. The most conclusive connection between modernism and the avant-gardc is the interest in the material which makes literature, arts and music. Provocative forms of art programme manifested by modernism and especially by the avant-garde and their inner union is one of the fundamental laws of evolution in the same way as are the semantic and structure connections between literature, arts, music and the other forms of culture.
