Description The author analyses situation of EAL students in Czech school: these students acquire a very basic communicative competence soon after their arrival in a new country. Teachers assume that their understanding of Czech and engagement in learnig is greater than it actually is. More than that, teachers have to respect needs of the mainstreem and can not take in account learning situation of EAL students. The author focuses on some specific moments in educational process of EAL students and on the EAL learner s tasks.
