Description The study was focused on evaluation of ecological linkages among stream macroinvertebrate communities and environmental factors at scale of river network. Agriculture, channelization, urbanization and industrial pressures interact with natural conditions in the Morava River basin. Potential ecological effects of stressors were considered according to spatial extent defined by stream buffer zones and sub-catchments. Information on nutrient releases from point sources, CORINE land use and riparian vegetation pattern were supplemented by data on water chemistry recorded at sites where benthic fauna has been sampled. Macroinvertebrate response was expressed in community-based metrics. A stressor-specific indicators, general biotic indices and traits-based metrics were investigated in relation to pressure risk assessment. Application of the SPEAR index in relation to modelled pesticides risk provided insight into one aspect of complexity in agriculture-related pressures on fluvial ecosystems.
