Description An adult male skeleton from grave 325, from the burial ground by the church of the Slavonic site of Pohansko, near Břeclav exhibits a marked bilateral asymmetry of the upper extremities that does not diminish distally. The skeleton does not present any other obvious indicators of skeletal pathology or trauma that might have led to this abnormality. In terms of measurable proportions, the asymmetry varies between 50 % and 95 %. It is highly probable the aetiology of the asymmetry involved an injury to the plexus brachialis, although thoracic outlet syndrome or shoulder instability cannot be ruled out. The distinct asymmetry indicates that the injury to the brachial plexus occurred before the skeletal maturity of the individual, who probably adapted to the restricted mobility by using the left arm and his teeth for manipulative tasks.
