Description Carbon dioxide is main component affecting carbonate speleothem growth. The factors controlling the production of CO2 in karst soils are still not completely understood. These factors were studied at the Byčí Skála site in the Moravian Karst under different seasonal conditions. The CO2 concentrations in soil air were found to correlate significantly with (1) temperature and (2) humidity in deeper soil profiles only.
