Description The selection of museum objects is not the end of the process – «secondary selection». Museums acquire and should also return – «deaccession». A new meaning is generated in the pro-cess of collection building. The cultural significance of the collection is also enhanced by the ac-tivity of the curator. The collection, which has the value of a «creation», is also a confirmation of the value of «creativity». An object is deacessioned: 1) If it is unfit for being irretrievably damaged or physically consumed. 2) If it is redundant for not being consistent with the nature of the collec-tion and therefore not increasing its value. Correct theoretical understanding of the process of deaccession is the core of museum practice. Repatriation – returning an object to its country of origin. Restitution – returning something to its original state. The term «universal values» shows its weak point in confrontation with the issues of repatriation. Each object plays an irreplaceable role in a perfectly composed collection. A.
