Description | Radiological methods and procedures have become an inseparable part of the screening, diagnosis, therapy and disease management of patients with colorectal cancer. CT This part of radiology is now focused to colonography – virtual colonoscopy in the screening, contrast- enhanced ultrasound in speeding up diagnostic procedures and magnetic resonance imaging especially in the precise diagnosis of liver disease and local staging of rectal cancer. Radiological interventional methods have been established in the last decade. They are suitable for those patients where a standard solution fails. Interventional radiology extends the treatment options for patients with colorectal cancer at stage IV. Invasive therapeutic methods in the treatment of malignant liver tumors can be either intravascular (chemoembolization and regional chemotherapy, preoperative portal vein embolization) or percutaneous (particularly radiofrequency termoablace). These methods can be used within downstaging of disease to allow curative resection, so the palliation of the disease. |
