Description | Poster presented first results of a theses in the field of assessment of foreign language learning strategies (FLLS) at upper secondary educational level. The Questionnaire of foreign language learning strategies for upper secondary schools and language schools for students (1. version, Přikrylová, Vlčková 2010) was used, based on Language Strategy Use Survey (A. Cohen, R. Oxford, C. Chi 2002) and on an approach to teaching based on learning styles and strategies by A. Cohen and S. Weaver (2006). The questionnaire is available on the Portal of self-evaluation tools for schools of the National Institute for Education. Strategies were measured in 6 areas of receptive (listening, reading) and productive language skills (writing, speaking), and vocabulary and translation. The research sample consisted of 940 respondents from upper secondary schools - comprehensive schools, vocational schools, and language schools. Presented results focused on school groups comparison in reported strategy use. Students tended to use foreign language learning rather seldom or not systematically in each of the strategy groups (average 2.56 for the frequency range of 1 to 4, SD 0.44). Vocabulary strategies were least used and the most used were translation strategies. |
