Description | This section makes a survay of primary and secondary brain tumours. Brain tumours are divided in categories and described by a modality of treatment. The most frequent symptoms are mentioned. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most prefered initial imaging study. Many of factors determine the treatment plan, which includes surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy or a combination of these. Most patiens undergo a surgical procedure for diagnostic and treatment purposes. Surgical resection of the tumor is the mainstay of therapy. Radiotherapy plays an important part in treatment and it uses conformal techniques of delivery radiation. Systemic therapy (chemotherapy, biological therapy) is another modality for certain tumours. The treatment of brain tumour is multidisciplionary and the follow-up is important. |
