Citation
Description This paper contributes to the contemporary studies in sociology of dwelling in the Czech Republic. The study is based on a qualitative research on standardized Bata's blue-collar dwellings (realized in Zlín during years 2007-2009). The main goal of this text is to present the quarter-houses and semidetached houses as (1) a part of broader urban and social project of industrial city and its comparison with the present conditions; as (2) the objects that might be envisaged as the witnesses of the social change that our society went through during 20th century and thus they enable us to describe and understand these changes. (3) Finally we can see how the specific technology and construction materials of seventy years old houses affect deeply the everyday practises of their contemporary inhabitants. The dwellers are obliged to negotiate the using and the renewal of the houses not only with their housemates but also with materiality of the house itself.
