Description Nucleic acids (NA) respl nucleotides contained in their structure can interact with selected compounds and metal complexes which can be utilized in study of their structure and properties. An example is labelling of pyrimidine bases with a mixture of OsO4 and nitrogen ligand (L) when ternary complexes are formed. Due the selectivity of such labelling towards particular bases we can study e. g. site mutations or another DNA damages. The tendency to complex formation with OsO4 and 2,2 bypiridine was observed in the range thymine, methylcytosine, uracil, cytosine. The position of pyrimidine is also important for the modification. The outer positions are modified more easily than inner ones, and two pyrimidines in proximity are labelled more slowly.
