Description Cytosine is an important building block of nucleic acids taking part in the process of genetic information transfer and transfer of energy of biologically important compounds by means of coenzymes. Due to acidobasic properties of bioligands, the presence of protonated species is dependent on the protonation constants. It was also shown that oligonucleotides (ODNs) concerning cytosine can form the so called structural i motif as a consequence of probable stabilization of the secondary structure of biomacromolecules. The aim of this work was to determine the protonation constants of ODNs varying the number of bases in order to see their influence on thermodynamic stability of studied ligands.
