Description We describe a novel, fundamental property of pyramidilization at the N1/9 sites of purine and pyrimidine bases. The study combines analyses of ultra-highresolution X-ray structures together with quantum chemical calculations, molecular dynamics simulations, and published solution nuclear magnetic resonance data.
