Description	Empiric experience is bringing evidence there is need to suppose that responses to pharmacotherapy in older patients is in comparison to average adults (age of 18-65, weight cca 70 kg) differential in efficacy and adverse drug effect occurrence. The reasons for that are not only decreased capacity of biodegradative drug metabolism and an increased incidence of organ pathologies in elderly but also all other age-related changes. This is applied for psychotropic drugs, too, as aging induces changes in the brain neurochemistry, structures, metabolism, and functions which are involved in pharmacological mechanisms of psychotropics. The paper highlights these various age-related changes in neuroplasticity of brain neurotransmitter systems altering psychotropic drug effects.
