Description | The article focuses on interindividual differences in using foreign language learning strategies (FLLS) at upper secondary comprehensive school in the Czech Republic and compares advanced learners and beginners in their strategic behaviour. The inventory SILL (Oxford 1990) which investigates memory strategies, cognitive, compensatory, metacognitive, social and affective strategies, was applied. Advanced learners used significantly more FLLS than beginners, they also used different strategies. Advanced learners used before all significantly more cognitive strategies, also metacognitive and social strategies. Advanced learners from our sample seemed to be more active and practice the language often, were self-reflective, had more analytical approach to FL learning and built upon their current knowledge. |
