Description Various authors show that childhood giftedness and success or extraordinary achievements in adulthood may be in many cases quite separate. Reasons are often sought why children considered as gifted may loose their giftedness and don't exhibit any extraordinary characteristics in adulthood. The aim of our paper is to approach the development of giftedness from the point of view of gifted people who are currently going through adolescence, the breakpoint stage when it may be decided whether they go on in the nurture of their giftedness or set out for some other direction. In our paper, we will present a multi-case study of adolescents who were according to their results in sports, music or school considered as gifted during their childhood but eventually decided to abandon the field of their giftedness and pursue some other life course.
