Description Competitiveness became the main topic of Lisboan strategy that was accepted by EU member states with the aim to improve the position of the EU in the global economy. Innovation policy intent on faster development of technologies, products and services and on their usage in practice (especially in the market) should be the way of competitiveness increasing. The objective of the article is to assess, if it is possible to improve competitiveness through the innovation policy. The attention is paid especially to selected tools and measures of innovation policy with intention on the situation in the Czech Republic. Are the tools, designed in the strategic documents of innovation policy, able to reach the defined objectives? And which results can we expected from their implementation? Is it probably, that the expended resources will bring some effect on economy? Is it possible to justify the expenses at tax payers? The article tries to find answers on these questions and on the basis of them suggests certain recommendations in accordance with relevance of measures and objectives.
