Description | During the parasitological investigations of african freshwater fish in the National park Nikolo Koba, Senegal, West Africa, altogether five species of viviparous monogeneans of the genus Macrogydactylus were found. This finding represents the first record of monogenean parasites of the genus Macrogyrodactylus Malmberg, 1957 on freshwater fish in Senegal. Species Macrogyrodactylus congolensis Prudhoe, 1957 from the skin and Macrogyrodactylus heterobranchii NDouba et Lambert, 1999 from the gills of Clarias anguillaris L. were found and both represent a new report of the host fish for these parasites. On Polypterus senegalus Cuvier, three Macrogyrodactylus species were identified, Macrogyrodacytlus polypteri Mamlberg, 1957, Macrogyrodactylus simentiensis n. sp. and Macrogyrodactylus sp. 1. The new species can be readily discriminated from the other Macrogyrodactylus species based on the size of its hamuli as the smallest ones in relation to all macrogyrodactylid species described till now. The marginal hooks of M. simentiensis n. sp. on anterolateral lobes differ in the size and in shape from those on posterior margin of the haptor. |
