Description | The goal of this work is to suggest a methodological approach using molecular systematics and phylogeography to address the question of whether or not Poa pratensis agg. was introduced to the Americas for the first time by European colonists or if some strains of it had already migrated there by other routes prior to the voyage of Columbus. The answer to this question is of great interest politically in the United States of America, where conservation measures demand different management of native (pre-Columbian) and introduced (post-Columbian) species. Further, preliminary optimization and testing of these methods will be undertaken to determine their suitability and applicability to this question. |
