Description | His-Asp phosphorelay in two-component systems (TCS) comprising a sensor histidine kinase and response regulator plays a key role in the response to environmental stimuli especially in prokaryotes. Similar TCS were recently found to exist in yeast, fungi, Dictyostelium and plants. In Arabidopsis thaliana TCS have been shown to be involved in ethylene and cytokinin signalling. Elucidation of the signalling mechanisms is crucial for understanding the action of two important hormones. In this paper, we summarize the current knowledge about prokaryotic and eukaryotic TCS. Focusing on TCS in Arabidopsis thaliana and surveying the Arabidopsis response regulator (ARR) genes, we have constructed a phylogenetic tree of the ARR family, and derived a probable model for operation of two-component circuits in Arabidopsis. |
