Description | Performance in basketball is perceived as a complex phenomenon influenced by various factors — from players‘ physical abilities to their capacity to respond to dynamic conditions during a game. Thus, performance in basketball is considered „multifactorial.“ This book is divided into three main chapters. The first part discusses basketball as a subject of scientific interest, mainly from a historical perspective. It traces the trend of publishing scientific articles in professional journals from the earliest publications to the present. It also describes the methodological approach chosen for the work. The second part focuses on the structure of performance and the determinants that may influence it, including individual skills, mental aspects, and physiological and physical demands. The third part is devoted to the analysis and evaluation of performance (both individual and team) based on the use of various subjective or objective methods. It also presents procedures (advanced statistics) aimed at better quantifying performance from various perspectives. The referenced literature highlights the benefits of using advanced statistics to assess multiple aspects of performance. However, no metric is perfect when it comes to measuring a player’s overall effectiveness, productivity, or contribution. Therefore, it is crucial to interpret these statistics correctly, with simplicity enhancing their practical value and understanding. While statistics cannot capture every aspect of the performance, they provide valuable insights that can help approximate the overall contribution of a player or team. |
