Description Linear growth and elemental sulfur oxidation during the active growth phase were detected. This observation had some common kinetic mechanisms of substrate limitation for both elemental sulfur and CO2, based on the Monod equation and the kinetics of fixed volume fed-batch culture. Linear kinetics in sulfur-oxidizing cultures were attributed to limitation by the elemental sulfur substrate when neither carbon dioxide nor oxygen were found as limiting factors based on a different aeration intensity.
