Description This paper uses the method of interpretative analysis and investigates a selection of children's and young people's literature. The selection of texts is based on books by Czech writers awarded prizes after the year 2000, with a theme that touches on psychology, be it emotions in Modrý Poťouch by Miloš Kratochvil, social relations in Sísa Kyselá a ušmudlaný rytíř by Martina Drijverová, or the theme of memories locked in the subconscious in Zločin na Starém Městě pražském by Daniela Krolupperová. The paper shows how the themes of psychology are reflected in the selected children's and youth literature, how they reflect the stage of development of the children's readers for whom the prose is intended. Modrý Poťouch by Miloš Kratochvíl is intended for pre-school children from the age of five, Sísa Kyselá a ušmudlaný rytíř by Martina Drijverová is recommended for children from the age of seven years, Daniela Krolupperová's detective prose Zločin na Starém Městě pražském (Crime in the Old Town of Prague) is intended for teenage readers aged twelve and above. The study seeks formative scenarios that address both the protagonists of the stories told and the child reader of that age, who explores them and navigates through literature, discovering experiences, emotions, relationships and discovering his or her place in social groups. The article is part of a broader thesis research and aims to explore the psychological characteristics of characters at different stages of psychological development in selected texts of Czech writers of children's and youth literature, to describe and categorise the developmental tasks, attitudes, qualities and values that are emphasised in these prose works and to compare them with commonly known theories of developmental psychology - the theory of thought development, moral awareness, but above all to compare the literary texts with Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development.
