| Description | Readers and those interested in Cornštejn are now in possession of a new book which, for the first time in history, attempts to look at this remarkable monument and its exceptional surroundings in a comprehensive way. The impetus for its publication was the recent archaeological excavations preceding the work related to the improvement of services for visitors to Cornštejn. In addition to the chapter on the history, which follows the successful guide to the castle published by the JMM and has been refined on the basis of recent literature and archival research and provided with annotated apparatus, enabling the interested reader to study it in depth, new essays have been included, the elaboration of which was done by the staff of the JMM in Znojmo and the Institute of Archaeology and Museology of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno. The interested reader can get acquainted with the natural environment of the castle and its surroundings. The remarkable and unique findings of stone tile fragments are evaluated in a separate chapter, and the access to the building-historical research in a chapter conceived as a guide to the castle is equally unique. The chapter devoted to Cornštejn and its image in oral folklore has also found its place in the publication. |
