Description | Latour's perspective makes things visible as they speak for themselves to contribute to his success. So, things do not appear as examples or representatives of something else. This Latourian perspective supports the concept of sociology, which speaks of the irreducibility and, therefore, the novelty of things emerging from the conflictual process of establishing the world. The sociology of the uniqueness of things and events that Latour strives for can overcome the burdensome opposition of life and history. The text shows that Latour's critique is shaped by the post-romantic tradition and the impossibility of Latour's theory to conceive the uniqueness of things other than as the emergence of something new represents a significant limitation: it deepens the attachment of his perspective to the instrumental concept of rationality. |
