| Description | Investigating animal behaviour is still a necessary tool in preclinical research on neuropsychiatric diseases and psychopharmaceuticals, as it allows at least a partial assessment of their impact on psychological function. As in other disciplines, there are available guidelines for animal research aimed at making animal studies as standard as possible - the ARRIVE guidelines. There are many types of experimental animals, not only in terms of species but also strains or genetically modified lines. Each model must first be validated and its basic behavioural, neurochemical or other characteristics determined. Three types of validity are usually distinguished: face, construct and predictive. Since no animal model perfectly reproduces all the characteristics of a given disease, it is appropriate to reproduce results using multiple animal models and methodological approaches. |
