Description | The idea of circulating different first-reading books for city and country schools may seem surprising today, but it was still common sense in the early days of the Second Austrian Republic (that is after 1945). How this pedagogical urban-rural difference affected the content conveyed in first-reading books is to be examined in this article. In doing so, I want to ask whether and to what extent the lifeworlds that were constructed in the primers for rural and city schools published after 1945 differ not only in terms of social milieu and the physical environment depicted, but also in terms of different social models and the associated connections Close educational concepts and catalogs of values. At first glance, it can be seen that rural primers were associated with a more conservative pedagogy, while city primers were more modern. On closer inspection, this finding no longer appears quite so clear, but above all there are clear changes in the period examined. |
