Citation
Description The study was focused to map the coping strategies in the figure skating environment and their frequency. The research group consisted of 20 figure skaters aged 15 – 26 years (average = 17,5, median = 16). The results of a one-off questionnaire survey using the Test of Performance Strategies method (TOPS) showed a relationship between all examined strategies, which are used in this sport to alleviate the mental strain associated with extreme demands on physical and mental performance. Subsequently, it was found that different levels of sports show different frequencies of the average use of coping strategies. Although according to the obtained results, all coping strategies were less frequently used at the intermediate level of the competition than at the highest level, all coping strategies were used more at the lowest competition level than at the two previous levels. The most frequently used coping strategies included goal-setting, imagery and self-talk. On the contrary, the least frequently used strategy was relaxation. The finding has a significant application overlap. The results mapped new empirical findings that allow further investigation of the issue.
