Description Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) have been a biology phenomenon of the last two decades. Their derivation represented a milestone in understanding the cellular and molecular nature of early human embryonic development and the differentiation processes that determine the final shape of somatic cells. In addition, the ability of almost universal differentiation makes embryonic stem cells an important biomedical and biotechnological tool with great potential for regenerative medicine, specific drug testing, knowledge of the etiopathogenesis of various diseases or analysis of environmental and teratogenic influences. As with any other technology based on biological systems, the key prerequisite is above all the stability and, in particular, the safety of cellular products intended for clinical use. It is the difficult to detect internal instability of stem cells, the tendency to differentiate or sensitivity to the conditions of the culture environment that led us to develop a method using mass spectrometry for biotyping and quality control of embryonic stem cell cultures.
