Description Cognitive style may differ in people from various cultures. According to some authors people from eastern cultures prefer analytic cognitive style, while those from the western cultures prefer the holistic cognitive style. However research brings mixed results. We used eye tracking to explore the visual strategies of Czech and Taiwanese students while viewing complex scenes with focal objects. In this text we present an explorative analysis of eye movements with the main focus on the characte- rictics of used stimuli. We take the position of the focal object, background characteristics and specific characteristics of the focal object (animal vs. object, eye gaze direction) into consideration. In the recent literature a possible influence of given task and used stimuli has been discussed; a deeper insight into these processes might be useful for future research.
