Description | High-speed rail network is widely discussed. It is a new type of infrastructure, which is not established in the Czech Republic yet. Nevertheless, the building of this network is to be started in several decades. The topic carries many aspects not only in technical and operational points of view. It is possible to claim, the impact of this infrastructure will be considerable and it may be the other impulse for regional development. In these debates, the spatial component is often ignored. Politika územního rozvoje ČR defines several corridors, which are spatially precised in the following urban planning documentations. The main base for the spatial protection of high-speed rail corridors has been established in the mid-1990s. Temporal discourses, however, indicate, that the conception is rather outdated and not actual. For example, there are several variants of the spinal route between Prague and Brno. The spatial protection is also a barrier of development for many municipalities, while it is not established, whether the high-speed rail will ever be built. The aim of this paper is to point out the temporal approaches of high-speed rail planning in the Czech Republic and compare this with the state of spatial protection for this infrastructure. Furthermore, the article discusses possible impact of infrastructure into several selected municipalities. |
