Description Schizophrenia is a severe complex mental disorder with high heredity and prevalence 0.5–1% of the population worldwide. Reliable diagnostic tests are still unavailable and the diagnosis is based mainly on interview of the person and family members. Significant differences in the amino acid profiles in patients´ plasma in comparison with healthy control were noted. Infertility is a personal concern of approximately 15% of couples at a reproductive age. The cornerstone of modern assisted reproductive technologies is in vitro fertilization. In last two decades, the correlation between the amino acid turnover and embryonic developmental competence has been identified and highlighted. Amino acids and their turnover assessment may provide valuable information related to multiple physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Capillary electrophoresis coupled with laser induced fluorescence detection is a powerful tool for analysis of amino acids in biological samples after their derivatization. Consequently, universal method applicable to various biological samples was developed. Its application to human plasma and spent culture media is subject of this contribution.
