Description | Pervasive refusal syndrome (PRS) is a rare but serious condition characterized by social withdrawal and active rejection of everyday life, such as diet, movement, communication, personal hygiene. In recent years, the symptoms of this disorder, also called resignation syndrome, have been more described in childhood and adolescent psychiatry by refugees from the former Soviet Union countries in Sweden. Local physicians diagnosed this disorder for the first time at the end of the 1990s. Accurate diagnostic criteria are still being discussed. With adequate treatment that focuses both on nutritional status and psychological status with emphasis on family support, PRS has a good prognosis. |
