Description This paper presents the results from research into the survival of family and non-family firms. The research used the Competitiveness of Czech firms matrix from 2009. The study looked at firms which were able to survive the economic crisis and observed their characteristics. The results indicated that family firms survived the economic crisis at a higher rate than non-family firms, and also that some of the non-family firms became family firms. The results open up new areas of research concerning the source of family-firm resilience during a crisis.
