Description Sport as a social and cultural phenomenon reflects contemporary highly competitive and medially influenced society. In this context traditional accent on fair play in the field of sport is relativized in context of sports ethics as asset of norms generally accepted in the top level performance-oriented sport as means for achieving maximum success and as an expression of identification of the top level athlete who is fully devoted to the values of performance, victory and reward. Top level sport contributes, in a specific and relativized manner, to the creation of the social criteria of success, wealth and prestige. The risks of negative effects of sport are necessarily considered also in connection with the process of commercialization of sport. As the respond therefore public recognition and political support should only be given to an attractive and demanding sport fair in every respect, satisfying individual as well as collective interests of democratic society. Key words: sport, fair play, ethics, mass media Fair play
